S.A. calls for appointment of 1st female UNSG

South Africa’s Parliamentary delegation to the Inter Parliamentary Union’s Assembly in Bahrain has called for the appointment of the first-ever female Secretary General of the UN. House Chairperson for Committees, Oversight and ICT in the National Assembly said that despite the UN’s commitment to women’s rights, actual transformation has been slow.

Africa’s regional centre for biosecurity now opens

Health Minister, Dr Joe Phaahla, on Friday officially opened Africa’s first Regional Diagnostic Demonstration Centre (RDDC). The centre, which has its headquarters in Johannesburg, Gauteng, will boost laboratory capabilities all over Africa, advancing the objective of a safe and secure Africa. He also recognised the Canadian High Commissioner to South Africa, Christopher Cooler, who announced funding for the establishment of the RDDC as a regional centre of excellence.
