As a human rights lawyer, Mr. Diar exposed the unjust system of apartheid in his native South Africa where he defended many political prisoners. While fearlessly fighting for justice and exposing the perversion of the rule of law, he was arrested at court and detained in solitary confinement for a month without charge.

This election has been declared free and fair. This is a credit to the Independent Electoral Commission, to the political parties and their leadership, and above all to the South African people.

As the Canadian government rejects any equivalence between Israeli and Hamas leaders after the International Criminal Court prosecutor applied for arrest warrants, South Africa’s top diplomat in Canada says the equivalence is in the breach of international law, not who is doing it

South Africa welcomes the order handed down by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) today by 13 votes to 2, ordering Israel, in conformity with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and in view of the worsening conditions of life faced by civilians in Rafah, to immediately halt its military operation.
